Fostering a passion for journalism and media among youth and teens. Through our activities and publications, we aim to empower young individuals to become effective communicators, develop essential writing skills, and make positive impacts on their readership.

Our flagship publication is the bi-monthly magazine, “Get Up and Goal.” It serves as a platform for youth leadership, health, and wellness, showcasing the talent, creativity, and unique perspectives of young individuals. “Get Up and Goal” is proudly created “for youth by youth,” giving club members the opportunity to contribute articles, stories, and artwork that resonate with their peers. By participating in the magazine’s creation, our club members gain valuable hands-on experience in the world of publishing.

Additionally, club members collaborate on various special publications throughout the year. This allows them to explore different topics and themes, providing them with a well-rounded experience in journalism and media.

Each meet up serves as a platform for learning, discussions, and collaborative work— focusing on setting goals and achieving deadlines to enhance time management skills. Club members learn the importance of punctuality and responsibility which are crucial elements for success in any field.

To enrich the club experience, quarterly field trips give our students the opportunity to explore real-world journalism/media environments. Visits to news organizations, media studios and other related venues allow members to observe professionals in action and gain valuable insights.

The Journalism & Media Club places a strong emphasis on different modes of writing. Our club members learn various writing styles, including expository, descriptive, narrative, persuasive, and creative writing. By mastering these modes, members can effectively express their thoughts, concerns, and opinions in a manner that resonates with their intended audience. UTA aims to cultivate exceptional writing skills while encouraging club members to use their voices to make a positive impact.

Club membership requires monthly dues of $25 which help cover the costs of publishing the magazine, organizing field trips, and providing necessary resources and materials for club activities. We strive to keep the club accessible to all interested individuals while ensuring a high-quality experience for all members.
