Winter Session - Course Description

INTRODUCTION TO SEWING COURSE FEE: $90 (PER SESSION)

(For Entry-Level & Advanced Beginners | Ages 10 & Up)(includes a $15 materials fee)

This combined course is designed for those with little to no sewing experience, as well as students who have previously completed UTA Beginners lessons and are ready to build on their foundational skills. This hands-on course helps students build confidence and practical sewing skills in a supportive, creative environment.

SESSION 1 (Entry-Level Beginners)
Participants will learn the basics of sewing, including:

• Understanding sewing machine anatomy and functions
• Sewing terminology and essential vocabulary
• Practicing basic seams and stitches
• Constructing a simple project (a pillow or a beginner’s item of their choice)

SESSION 2 ((Advanced Beginners – Returning or Experienced Students)
Students who completed Session 1 will continue refining their sewing skills while beginning beginner-level garment construction. This session also serves as a refresher for experienced beginners who want to strengthen their skills and reinforce core techniques.

Course Outcome

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

• Identify and explain the parts and functions of a sewing machine
• Thread a machine needle and bobbin independently
• Create a simple pillow pattern and follow a step-by-step sewing process
• Understand fabric cutting, seam allowances, and essential sewing notions

Course Duration: February 7 – March 10 (6 Weeks)

Sewing Machine Rental Fee: $10 per class or bring your own

NOTE: Youth under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
